Bishop Schneider speaking to group

July 24, 2008 - Bishop Athansius visits Children of Mary - Bishop Athanasius Schneider of the diocese of Karanganda (near the Chinese border) visited us on July 24th. Many friends of the Children of Mary came to have coffee and meet the bishop that evening.

Bishop Schneider shared with us the situation of his local church which lived hidden during the soviet communist regime. He is now trying to implant the church in a visible manner, living in a context of Islamic majority and among a strong Russian-orthodox presence.

How Bishop Schneider Came To Visit Children Of Mary: We saw a video clip of him being interviewed about his book, Dominus Est, about reverence towards Our Eucharistic Lord. We were very impressed with his love for Our Lord and the humble manner in which he presented his ideas on how we can restore reverence to Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. After seeing the video, we sent him our CD and prayer cards and told him that if he were ever in the United States, we would love to have him visit us. A few weeks later he wrote and said he was coming!

We feel greatly blessed that this holy man came to visit us.

Note: Bishop Schneider's book, Dominus Est is now being translated into English and should be available by the end of this year. The book includes interesting stories about some of the bishop's experiences growing up in a soviet occupied country. For example, how he made his First Holy Communion in secret, stealing away at night, traveling by train to the church and returning to his home after dark the next night. We ask Our Heavenly Father to let this book spread throughout the Church and help restore love and reverence to Our Eucharistic Lord.

We ended the day with a talk on chastity and gathered around the beautiful statue of the Immaculate Conception and promised, with the help of God's grace, to be pure and chaste.

June 28, 2008 - Nathan Maurer is working on his eagle scout badge. The project he chose was to build a shelter over our outdoor altar. Thunder storms have delayed the work, but he and his scout friends have labored many hours in the mud and rain to build the shelter, and they are making steady progress. Fr. Bob Penhallurick came and offered Mass for the scouts and their families. It was a beautiful liturgy!
June 16 - 20 - The Sisters of Children of Mary spoke to the children at the Vacation Bible School at St. Francis de Sales parish in Newark. We told them about Little Nellie of Holy God, a four year old who always called God 'Holy God', and the first time she saw Jesus in the monstrance, she exclaimed, "There He is! Holy God!" She longed to receive Jesus in Holy Communion and before her death was questioned about the Faith and was given permission to make her First Holy Communion early. We and then took the children into the adoration chapel to worship Jesus and to ask the grace for each of them to love Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament like Little Nellie loved Him.

At 2:00 p.m. Fr. Bob Penhallurick offered Mass for priests; the liturgy was beautiful. Later we prayed the outdoor Stations of the Cross using reflections written by Pope Benedict XVI. It was a very grace-filled day - it seemed all of creation joined us in praising God for the great gift of the Priesthood.

COM 6th aniversary

Sixth Anniversary Celebration - On January 17th we celebrated the anniversary of Jesus coming to live on the land with us. It was on that day in 2002 when Bishop Griffin celebrated Holy Mass in our chapel, and after Holy Communion he put Our Lord in the tabernacle to dwell here with us, we pray, forever. What a wonderful day! It was the fulfillment of a dream. To celebrate the anniversary, we had an enthronement ceremony during which we enthroned Jesus in the monstrance on the altar with beautiful decorations. Beneath the monstrance was a banner with the words: "Be still and know that I AM God." We sang to Our Lord and thanked Him for the great priviledge of being in His Sacred Presence and we spent the afternoon in adoration. That night the Sisters put on a surprise skit for Mother Margaret Mary.

August 29, 2007 - Beautiful new statue of Our Lady donated by Jo Ann Guinther and Carol Roberts, and mounted on the pillar by Joe Guerin. The pillar is a reminder of the dream of St. John Bosco where the Church was in a terrible battle and the Holy Father saved it by anchoring it to two pillars: atop one pillar was Our Blessed Mother, atop the other was Our Eucharistic Lord.

German prayer card This is My Body Prayer Card Promoted in Europe - On June 5th, the eve of the feast of St. Boniface, our prayer card for the grace for all mankind to adore Our Eucharistic Lord (This is My Body card) was promoted on Catholic TV in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. As I thanked God for this great grace, I recalled that in the 1970's, when this land was vacant with an old farmhouse on it, a priest brought a group of seminarians here for a retreat. They put a wooden cross on top of the deserted farmhouse, offered Mass and consecrated this land to Our Lord naming it, "Mission St. Boniface". I found it very interesting that the promotion for the card in Germany began last evening, eve of the feast of St. Boniface, patron saint of Germany. The morning of this feast Sr. Maureen and I went to a statue of St. Boniface in a local church and asked his intercession for the spread of the prayer card so that many would join in the prayer for all to love and adore our Eucharistic Lord. May our voices rise to Heaven and grace flood the earth so that love and reverence for Jesus in the Holy Eucharist will blossom all over the world. Lord God, set all hearts on fire with love for Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament!

May 19, 2007 - On May 19 the area councils of the Knights of Columbus came to our rescue - again! Our chapel is constructed from logs which need to have a maintenance coat of stain applied to the exterior logs every five years or so. But before they can be stained, they have to sprayed with a potent cleaning solution, scrubbed with a scrub brush, and then power washed. A big job, especially considering that some of the logs are about 35 feet high. We are VERY grateful to the Knights who came and completed this arduous task for us. The exterior of the chapel looks beautiful. That same day one of the Knights and his son worked on building new barn doors for us.When they are finished they will be a work of art, not just doors. When closed, they will form a cross with rays coming out from it. Thank you Knights of Columbus!
Please pray for vocations - especially for two women coming this month for vocation discernment.
