Sister Dvorah's Investiture Day (August 6, 2008)
On August 6, 2008, Sister Dvorah became a Novice in the Children of Mary community.
Scripture Reading: Song of Songs 3: 1-4a:
"On my bed at night I sought him whom my heart loves - I sought him, but I did not find him. I will rise then and go about the city; in the streets and crossings I will seek Him whom my heart loves. I sought him but I did not find him. The watchmen came upon me, as they made their rounds of the city: Have you seen him whom my heart loves? I had hardly left them when I found him whom my heart loves. I took hold of him and would not let him go . . . ."![]()
"After receiving the Habit on the Great Feast of the Transfiguration,
something happened deep within my soul.
The Mass, the ceremony, hearing the meaning of the Habit,
and so many people there celebrating with me was pure joy.
Then, as I was standing there
and allowing my sisters to dress me with the linen garment
I felt I was being clothed with Love.
Then I received the wool scapular, the Yoke of Jesus my Lord.
Over the last couple of days the meaning of ‘His Yoke’
is becoming more real;
I have accepted Him and His ways,
with His grace, I want to be a sacrifice for Him.
I am His sheep;
it is imperative that His will be done in my life."Prayers for the blessing of the holy habit:
Question: Sister, what does your heart desire?
Answer: My heart’s desire is to give myself to God, to love and adore Him and pray that all people will come to adore Him in the Most Blessed Sacrament and be faithful members of His Holy Catholic Church.
HABIT: Receive this white linen habit. May it be a daily reminder to you of the white linen with which Our Lord’s dead Body was wrapped after He died a painful death on the cross for love of you. Through your life of prayer and sacrifice, may you bring this white habit to Him on the last day adorned with many souls.
CINCTURE: Receive this cincture, a sign that you are bound to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary as slaves of love, and for love of Them, a servant to all God’s people.
SCAPULAR: Receive this purple scapular, a symbol of the yoke of Christ, a yoke that is easy and light when worn with great love for Him. The purple signifies the grace with which you are clothed because of the His Passion, may this be a year of much growth in grace and wisdom. It is made of wool, a reminder that you are one of His sheep, following your Shepherd wherever He leads, and obeying the shepherds He places over you – His vicar, Our Holy Father, and all of the bishops and priests in union with him.
VEIL: Receive this white veil, a reminder to put aside all earthly concerns and put on the mind of Christ. May this be a year of detaching yourself from created things so that your heart can be filled with love for God alone.
Go now to be clothed with these holy garments by the mother God has given you on earth – allowing yourself to be clothed by her as a sign of your docility to her as she teaches you and guides you on the holy path of religious life.
Dear Sister Dvorah, I wholeheartedly encourage you to prepare with earnest during this year of novitiate so that next year you will be professed and receive the purple veil and the five-knotted cincture of the Children of Mary- professing to live the three evangelical counsels, to pray for abundant and holy priests, and to give your life as an offering to God that all people on earth will come to love and adore Him in the Holy Eucharist and be faithful members of His Holy Church.
